When designing for print, it is always best to create your file using CMYK and/or PMS colours. This is because we print using these 4 colours - Cyan, Magenta, Yellow & Black. RGB is not recommended for print, and if supplied, would need to be converted to CMYK before printing which could result in colour variation from your original design.
For your brand colour, many clients choose to specify a Pantone colour to maintain colour consistency throughout their branding - whether it be for Print, signage, T-shirts and more.
To represent Foil, Emboss/Deboss or Spot UV in your design, it is essential to use a SPOT colour for this artwork. Commonly 100% magenta is used to represent embellishments on print. It is helpful to also label the swatch with the type of embellishment - ie. Gold Foil or Spot Gloss UV. (see below example)
Other Spot colours can be used for dielines or creases - these are often represented using 100% cyan, or a colour which provides high contrast to the other design elements so that it can be easily identified.
